Where do I even begin... When Addy Elizabeth contacted me about wanting to host a fashion show to promote their Spring line, I jumped at the chance. Not only do I LOVE AE clothing (affordable AND quality? what's not to love?), I jumped at the chance to support a fellow female entrepreneur. Crystal Vazquez, the owner of the boutique, is a two-time entrepreneur who has been killing it in Western Mass for years. I adore working with her, and I knew this event was going to be a success from day one.
When Chikmedia was started 5 years ago, it was born out of a horrible situation: being sexually harassed at my full time job. That's the first time I've ever written that. I was being aggressively sexually harassed and after months of reporting it, not only was nothing done, I was scolded for constantly bringing it up. My boss and his sidekick wanted it buried, and I was left to either shut up and live with it, or go out on my own. The decision was a no-brainer.
This event was more to me than a fashion show. It was an opportunity to TRULY support the women of Western Mass who are making a difference here in the community. Over 75 of you showed up. You bought the shit out of Addy Elizabeth. You cheered for our models, who were also sponsors and incredible, local women. You ate. You drank. You were merry.
I am forever grateful for this community. We are already planning our second Chiks' Night Out and we want you there. We're not going away. This wasn't a one-time deal. Western Mass NEEDS this. We need to connect with one another. We need more fun things to do. We need to find creative ways to support one another and to keep young professionals HERE in The 413. It's the only way we will thrive. We are stronger together... so let's put on our big girl panties and do this Western Mass.
