This past weekend, Chikmedia popped the champs and set off to Providence, Rhode Island for a much needed retreat weekend. On Friday, we spent our day in a lovely Air B&B (shoutout to Bob) where we were able to really connect on all things Chikmedia, from past experiences, present and on plans that we have in store for the future.
Once the work day was over, we glammed up and got ready to hit the town. Had a little photo shoot along the way, and by the next time we checked our clocks-it was time for dinner.
We started our night off at Ten Prime Steak and Sushi, as soon as you walk in you could immediately feel the vibes that the restaurant wanted to give off to their consumers from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. The remarkable hospitality from the staff, all of the lights and the array of decorations added so much character and charm to our dinner and it was a fantastic way to start off our evening. From their "Crunchie Munchie Rolls" to their "Party of Many Skewers" appetizers, to their Clam Chowder, there is always bound to be something on the menu for everyone to love! You'll never be disappointed by a night out at Ten Prime.
In between Dinner, and Dancing, we walked down the block to The Dorrance. They were Located in the heart of downtown Providence, and the restaurant maintains the timeless elegance of yesteryear in a gleaming, contemporary way. There were high ornate ceilings, a long, luxurious bar, and a well-appointed dining room that comforted you as soon as you walked in. The live jazz music of saxophone tunes definitely gave the restaurant a very glamourous feel. You always hear the saying "Dinner and a show" but Drinks with a show? 10/10!
Our third and final stop for the night was a rooftop bar at GPub. The pink lighting really added a genuinely elegant ambiance as soon as we walked out of the elevator, and one that we could all especially appreciate. There were fire tables and an abundance of cushion couches, a DJ section and an enormous bar that stretched from one end of the room to just about the other. All of our drinks were prepared quickly and perfectly, not too strong, not too weak, and then open air feel was a perfect vibe- especially when the dance floor became popular. You can't do anything but enjoy yourself when you're up that high, it honestly makes you feel like you're on top of the world, with good cocktails and good people.

October first is seventeen days away, which means that it's already time to starts putting away the sundresses and switching out your wardrobe to comfy booties and leather jackets. Fall flies by in a flash, so it is important to take advantage of the crisp weather and beautiful foliage (especially for your Western, MA) ladies, while you can. But if you're unprepared for it- there's no fun in that!
When switching out your closet, it doesn't make sense to toss everything you own- in fact there's a few ways to make use of old clothing articles so that you don't have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. You can recycle a lot of what you already own by wearing them in different ways. There's a huge difference between being bored of wearing something and it being "out of style" or in this case-out of season.
Another fall fashion tip that I like to recommend is creating a morning kit for yourself, or simply laying out your clothes the night before. For the mornings that you're running late or that you have to be in the office early, if you completely plan out your outfit, accessories and hair plans the night before- you not only save yourself a bucket load of time (to do other things that could make you late, like brewing your coffee from home or trying a new makeup technique...aka me) but you also give yourself the opportunity to really see what you have. That way, if you're missing something or there's a staple in your closet that you tend to use often, you'll be able to see what you're missing or need to complete your fall outfits.
Last but certainly not least- the most important tip I can give you to switching your seasons over is to switch over what you have BEFORE you start shopping. More so, plan ahead. Try to make categories of what you have already, so that if there's anything extra or left over that you need, you can plan accordingly. By doing this, you won't go into a department store blind- and by every temptation that you see. You'll also end up saving yourself in the long run from spending unnecessary amounts of money on things you don't need. You'll also have space for the things that you do buy instead of stuffing a ridiculous amount of items into your drawers, to only have it get crammed, wrinkled and lost into an abyss of clothes.
Now that you have a bit of a head start on the clothing portion of Fall, here are some festivities to get you started- and put those outfits to the test!
Here's some of our favorites in the Western, MA area.
What are some of your favorite fall festivities?

Cupcake Charlie's is an award winning Cupcake bakery, with two locations on Cape Cod- and more scattered around New England. One located in the heart of Mashpee Commons, and the second being in Falmouth. To us Cape natives, a visit to Cupcake Charlie's not only brought us so much excitement, but it also allowed us to make so many fun and sweetly filled memories. To those of you who are traveling to the Cape on a vacation, this has to be one of the most important destinations that you absolutely MUST visit. From Cupcakes, to Frosting Shots, to Trifles, there is bound to be something your sweet tooth will dance for joy about.
This week, I had the privilege of speaking with Penny Lessa, the woman that makes all the magic happen. Penny takes Pride in her bakeries, and no two items are ever alike. The quality of her work is extremely important to her, especially when it comes to pleasing her loyal customers.
1.) Prior to Cupcake Charlie's what type of industry were you involved in?
"Prior to Cupcake Charlie's I was in the Real Estate business. I was a licensed agent and was living 10 months out of each year in Florida, in the Disney area. I specialized in the sale of vacation homes, and investment properties. The market, at the time was very strong, and I met with great success.
I was also licensed in MA - getting my start from another wonderful female entrepreneur here on the Cape, who has been a successful agent for years! Before all that, I was working as a Sales and Marketing Director at a wonderful Assisted Living Community here on the Cape"
2.) Did you undergo certain education or training to have knowledge in the culinary (or baking?) field?
"I have no formal training or background in the baking industry. I am completely self taught, (with the help of my Mom and some old neighbors) and have had a love of baking since I was a kid. My Mom used to make stunning cakes out of our home when I was growing up - and I remember hoping she would have left over frosting so we could eat it on crackers when she was done. (you should try it sometime - it's DELISH!) It took almost a year to perfect all the recipes for Cupcakes Charlie's, and then learning how to actually operate the business, was one day at a time, once we opened the first shop."
3.) What sparked your interest in opening up your own business, let alone, a dessert business!
"I am definitely an entrepreneur at heart. I had tried my had at a few business in the past - but none lasted long term. You know that question . . . "If you can do any type of work, what would it be?" Well my heart always said own a bakery - but not being formally trained made the thought of that overwhelming. But, once the real estate market crashed, and I had to decide what was next for me - I decided cupcakes!! (with a bit of encouragement from some special family members!) My husband looked up cupcakes online and saw that a few shops actually already existed in CA, NY and Las Vegas - so immediately I felt it was a risk worth taking!"
4.) How long have you been in this business?
"We just recently celebrated 10 years in business! Boy how time flies. I feel so blessed to have made it this long. In those 10 years the business has grown to 5 shops. There are 2 on the Cape (Mashpee Commons and downtown Falmouth), one in Plymouth, down on the waterfront, one in Patriot Place in Foxboro (home to the New England Patriots) and one in Newport, RI. We have evolved over these 10 years from just cupcakes - to now offering custom cakes, whoopie pies, butter bars, cake pops, frosting shots, trifles, cookies, Gluten free and Vegan products, amazing soft-serve ice cream, and more. We even offer Nationwide shipping, which is a great option for the tourists that live far away to get their cupcake fix. I love baking - so often, when I am in the shops, I love to experiment - so you never know what I might whip up and put in the bakery case . . . most recently, mini key lime pies - YUM!"
5.) Why Cape Cod? Have you lived here your entire life? Or were you just looking to relocate.
"The location was a hard decision. We were still living 10 months in FL, and 2 months here on the Cape. But in the end, I really felt the support of family was needed (and all my family is in MA). We live on the Cape, so a location here certainly made sense. I felt like foot traffic was going to be important to the success of the business - so that is what drew us to the Mashpee Commons - and it has turned out to be a great decision."
6.) What do you prioritize most when it comes to creating the actual products in store?
"Flavor is of the utmost importance. I definitely consider myself a Foodie, and feel like I know what tastes good. So I won't stop until I think a product tastes absolutely as good as it can. That is so important to the success of keeping long term customers. They can recognize good quality and good flavor, and they appreciate it! After flavor is the design. It has to look good too, to catch a persons eye - If it doesn't look appealing, or fun or creative, then people just won't buy it."
7.) What would you say is your biggest success thus far?
"My biggest personal success thus far has been choosing the right husband. Having a good man that builds you up, encourages you and helps you follow your dreams is really one of the keys to a happy life - I am Blessed to have found a wonderful man! After that is Cupcake Charlie's of course. I am so proud of how it has grown and am always amazed when I meet a person for the first time, near or far and they actually know about Cupcake Charlie's. It is an amazing feeling! We were on the beach in FL one time and got to chatting with some people - and they actually knew of us - its crazy sometimes."
8.) What would you say is your biggest weakness?
"My biggest weakness is being a perfectionist - the worry of not being perfect, or failing at something new, can sometimes hold me back - or take me 3 times as long to do, because I want total perfection."
9.) Could you ever expand past the Cape and Plymouth (south shore) area? Would you want to if so?
"We could certainly expand. I have a shop in Newport, RI - that is a little over an hour away. But the further you get, the harder it is to manage. And I never want to lose the quality of product or the original vision. I really don't want to disappoint any customers."
10.) What's your favorite part about the business? Do you have a "favorite" product?
"Choosing a favorite product is tough. I am a sweet-a-holic - so I pretty much enjoy it all. If I had to choose a favorite cupcake - I would say either our hostess with the mostess or our Cream Puff - both soooooo good!! My favorite part of the business is getting to be creative. I love coming up with new products or new flavors - it is so fun to experiment!! And if it makes it into the case - I LOVE when it makes a customer happy - so satisfying!"
11.) What goes into the planning and creating of new flavors, ideas or styles? Are they produced often?
"A lot of times, creating something new just comes on a whim. The mood for experimenting strikes, and off we go . . . Other times, it is based around a holiday of some sort. For example, August is National Peach Month - so I have spent a couple of weeks trying to perfect a NEW Peach Crisp cupcake. This new flavor will be released in shops on Aug 22nd, which is Nation Eat a Peach day."
12.) Do you have any advice for future entrepreneurs in hopes of starting their own businesses?
"I would say that if you are looking to venture out and open your own business - be sure to choose something you love to do and are passionate about - as it will become a huge part of your life, so you are going to want to enjoy it! And be sure to do whatever it is - the best it can possibly be done. You want to be the front-runner. Treat your staff with respect, and let them know you appreciate them. Build them up and mentor them - And treat your customers like gold! You have to know and always remember, that without customers, you will have no business -"

My first post as an Editorial Contributor and Intern was about the lovely, and talented Crystal Vazquez and all about how much of a wonderful business owner she has become. To refresh your memories, she is the owner of her very own on location beauty team. Her salon provides exceptional hair and makeup services on site for a variety of different occasions, just about anything you can think of. Weddings, proms, portraits and editorials. One of her most prized accomplishments is the success of her own mobile boutique, Addy Elizabeth!
This makes Crystal a two-time entrepreneur, and today we are celebrating her because the one year anniversary of Addy Elizabeth is finally here. Addy Elizabeth is a trendy, chic boutique that was found around New England. Crystal Vazquez created this mobile boutique as an option for women to shop trendy styles at a reasonable price. It's perfect because it gives you the option of shopping online, holding a private party, and even following them to certain events, or hold a fundraiser for your own cause or organization. All items are hand selected and shipped from Massachusetts. In other words, no two items are alike and you really will not be able to find anything here, anywhere else! With having your own business, a while back Crystal told us that she believed that she was able to get where she is today by always being sincere, and making sure that they give back to the community yearly, and she would never put a dollar amount before her clients and staff. She could definitely be making more right now, but she really runs her business with heart and it comes back full circle. She told us that she is already living her wildest dream with the company, which is actually why her she started this second venture. This time around, here is what she had to tell us about Addy Elizabeth's Anniversary.
"This year was definitely a learning experience. I forgot how hard it was to start a business and am still working on finding a balance to work both businesses equally.
I struggled a little because I listened. Sounds weird right? I carried things based on suggestions from my shoppers. Specifics included "you carry too many basics, shoot for the boutique pieces" sizing recommendations also came in. I would carry the sizes requested or the pieces suggested and they sat there.
So I scratched listening and focused on my original business plan.
(remember back in January when she commented on the fact that to keep it simple and be patient. We often feel as though we have to make our business plan more complicated as time passes, but sometimes your original plan is the best plan ;) )
My shoppers comment on how I style them in pieces they would never touch, and they end up loving it. That is why I do this. To help women find their style, to help them be seen, and to give them a confidence boost. The right outfit will lay out the foundation of your mood for the day."
Stay tuned and make sure you Chiks stay in the loop!

The month of August tends to often be looked down upon, the negatives come into play of summer being over, school vacation is almost done, no more long beach days and ice cream shops aren't open til 11pm- but August is actually one of the best months out of the year in my opinion.
We are actually required to take a legitimate chill pill and kick back and relax. The law says so. On August 10th it is National Lazy Day, and on August 15th it is National Relaxation Day. So take a personal day, sit on your porch, read the sunday paper and enjoy the warm weather while it lasts. This month the 10th falls on a Friday (could be dangerous) and the 15th falls on a Wednesday (could be nice to take a break mid week), so make sure to mark them down in your calendar so that you're already ahead of the game.
Start planning and planting your bulbs for the fall now if you want them to really succeed. Your veggie garden is going to be in full bloom this month however, now is the time to really start harvesting. Your tomatoes are just ripe enough for you to pick, your melon is at its peak for sweetness, your corn, blueberries and raspberries will all be at your ready so go grab and enjoy them before any other little garden critters do!
There's tons of recipes that you can incorporate your food into as well, ones that you normally wouldn't even think of.
You could make Summer Corn Cakes:
You'll need, 2 eggs, beaten
A Ruby Raspberry Slaw would pair great with your Summer Corn Cakes.
ALSO: The weather is completely in its prime. Huge perk. We get a break from the sweltering heat and humidity, it's a nice change from sweating your tail off in July and being soaked by rain and torrential downpours in June. With the weather being at its best, it gives you a lot of opportunities to go out and take advantage of all of the sales it has to offer. Shopping for office supplies is always super inexpensive as well as decor and furniture. If you're like me, you have Bed Bath and Beyond coupons linked directly to your cell phone, and at least once a week you're getting text messages for 20% off. Staples commercials will be running constantly, reminding you that your moment to be reunited with a new desk calendar or set of gel pens is only moments away.
August is also the most popular month out of the year for babies! As an August baby, our birthstone is Peridot. Which symbolizes strength and healing powers. It also symbolizes being a protector from all things negative and evil, therefore we radiate constant harmony and happiness. From July 23rd til August 22nd, your zodiac sign would be Leo, and a Virgo from August 23rd til September 22nd.
Have any August benefits or perks of your own?
Be sure to share them with us on our Instagram, or Facebook page or in the comments below!

Angela Thornton is the proud owner and creator of Artisan Skin Care in Orleans, MA. She is a licensed holistic aesthetician of eighteen years, she has been offering holistic skin care services for seven years now. She does not follow trends, and is against fear-based and image defamation beauty advertising. She wants to FREE you from relying on harmful chemicals and allow you to simplify your skin care routine and go with what nature intended. In Angies eyes, your long-term skin health is her priority so she keeps her prices accessible to make consistent care possible. "I believe that regular holistic facials are not a luxury, they’re a necessity (but a luxurious one, nonetheless!). I pay extreme attention to every detail that goes into my services and formulas; I use only high quality ingredients and products, I set the bar when it comes to hygiene, and I personalize every aspect of your experience.
"Our brand message is simple: if you want to be beautiful, then you must be kind to yourself. My holistic facials and products teach you how to do this. Be Organic. Be Natural. Be You.
Someone asked me once “Angie why is a facial so important?” I responded with “Because people will tend to forget your name, before they forget your face.”"
You responded to our CC entrepreneur call, can you tell me a little bit about your big picture for yourself and your entrepreneurial endeavors?
"To be honest I’ve always been a big dreamer, goal setter and ALWAYS a driven person. So I see taking myself and my companies extremely big and my cause even bigger."
How did you develop the knowledge to get you to where you currently are? Education, training, etc.
"18 years ago I graduated from cosmetology school and apprenticed for almost 2 years afterwards while working other jobs. At the time I didn’t realize how smart I was for taking the time to apprentice after graduation, to my surprise many of my fellow students didn’t do this? None of them lasted in the industry. Cosmetology school got me the education for my state license, but the grueling apprenticeship is how I developed my passion for my trade. It is very hard for a young person to have patience, but this is part of being a very successful person."
What motivated you to want to become a business owner?
"Same reason every entrepreneur goes into business for, a better life and more financial opportunities. Also for me personally, the desire to change the world is way too inspiring for me to pass on the chance. I really had no choice in the matter either, my personality has a hard time conforming. I am best described as a recklessly responsible person. Perfect formula for an entrepreneur. I am free to be as creative as I want and that makes me a very lucky individual. Speaking of luck… Lucky people make their own luck."
What do you think people should be the most aware about when it comes to skin care?
"Know what your ingredients are and do! The 4th question I ask before a facial is what are you using before bed and when you wake up in the morning? Nine out of 10 times the answer is always “ I don’t know?” It’s time you start knowing what type of beauty business you are supporting. It’s time to be aware of synthetic chemicals that are polluting your body and your planet. It’s time to take responsibility for the welfare of animals that are used in deplorable testing. It’s time to be aware of what is going down your drain into your water table, which feeds the plants, that feeds the animals and the humans. It’s time to get back to nature, and our own natural beauty."
What do you see as your biggest challenge?
"Greatest challenge is KEEPING my positive attitude! Every day YOU wake up with a choice...Am I going to have a good day? Or a bad day? The everyday challenges are just like any other entrepreneur having a set bedtime, eating dinner before 11 o’clock at night, finding good help etc. But to be honest I actually don’t mind the struggles and challenges. There’s nothing wrong with being tested… it will only make you that much more stronger! The butterfly needs to struggle out of the cocoon, so that it can become a beautiful butterfly and soar. I always say, If you can learn to climb your own walls, then you can conquer the rest of them. More importantly, and those walls can be as tall or as small as you want them to be. Stay positive."
What do you see as your biggest success?
"Greatest successes is HAVING my positive attitude! I want to say this is the overall one continuous sense of satisfied success I have. I learned a long time ago that the pursuit of happiness is a very sad life. And so many people live this way… especially entrepreneurs. Because after all this is why people enjoy our inspiring stories. For me my happiness can be misplaced, but just like my car keys I always will find it again. As an entrepreneur, it’s hard to pinpoint your greatest success, because what makes a successful entrepreneur is that they are never truly satisfied. I guess on the surface my greatest success is knowing that with each and every Artisan Skin Care facial I provide and every Artisan Organics formula that I produce. I know that I am giving 120% of myself and talent to my clients. My goal every day is to make my 5pm client feel just as special as my 9am client. I am proud of this. Deeper under the surface successes...I’ve conquered so many fears, and are open to conquering more if they should come. I feel too for the first time in my life, that I can now love and be loved. And that’s such a great feeling to have, and I wish for everyone to have it too someday. Be positive."
What sets you apart from other skin care companies?
"I am a whole-hearted, holistic, skin care experience based on your individual needs. I am passionate about providing professional skin care treatments using real ingredients from nature to encourage your natural beauty. I’m a licensed holistic aesthetician of eighteen years, I have been offering holistic skin care services for seven of those years now. I don’t follow trends, I’m against fear-based and image defamation beauty advertising. I want to FREE you from relying on harmful chemicals and allow you to simplify your skin care routine and go with what nature intended.
Artisan Skin Care and Artisan Organic’s clients are people that are free-spirited, independently fabulous, and are not going to accept the fake beauty industry or their fake chemical damaging products! But instead would rather love themselves naturally. Her clients have one thing in common, they are people who simply CARE. They care and value themselves enough to enjoy only holistic skin care treatments and healthy products. They care about their skin, their health, and their environment. They are true natural beauties. They are looking for natural alternatives to the toxic, animal-tested, environmentally-polluting products that exist in the commercial beauty world. When people are confronted with the image of beauty, we believe they need encouragement NOT intimidation, positivity not negativity."
What is one piece of advice that you can offer future entrepreneurs in their future endeavors?
"Well, once you become an entrepreneur you will ruin yourself for any type of employment afterwards. No one will be able to have authority over you again, unless you are paying them to do so. So really look deep within yourself, before you make this life-changing decision. And once you do decide to cross over to the other side of the tracks. You will learn very quickly that Joneses grass is greener, because they water it! So hard diligent work is a must. Also don’t be afraid of failure! Failure is a bruise not a tattoo. Welcome the challenges and struggles, whether they be your own or within your business. They are a good exercise for your patience, courage, stamina and faith. Funny thing is.. any real true entrepreneur loves the devastating lows and the dizzying highs to their businesses and lives. It’s the “strange curse” that all successful entrepreneurs love to hate and hate to love. Do I have challenges and struggles? Yes I do...but the differences is I just don’t quit."
Any signing off comments you have for us today?☺
"Something that I have learned over the years… Is practice what you preach. Part of being a good person, is being good to myself. I love being healthy both physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I spend as much possible free time exercising, eating healthy, being sociable with friends and family (this includes my two dogs) and my loving, sexy, talented, devoted husband. I love nature, hiking, cycling, shark cage diving, concerts, biplane riding, motorcycle riding, dancing etc. As much as I love to work I also love to have FUN, because what does it all mean at the end of the day? I am currently training for my pilot’s license, a self-defense training course, reading Leaving Home by Garrison Keillor and waiting for Guns n’ Roses to come back to the states for their USA Tour. What I find to being a successful person in general is this bit of advice: “Give the best part of your day to yourself, and give everyone else the rest.”"
Artisan Skin Care is coming out with a newsletter, keep checking back on their site for more information!
As always, xoxo

Here at Chikmedia we work with an abundance of clientele who are all incredibly unique in their own way. Each business that we work with has their own vision, their own mission, and their own passion- and that's why we care for them as efficiently as we do! This weeks Chikchat feature is actually bringing one of our own clients into the spotlight. Kim, from Trees Bees and All of These is a small animal holistic veterinarian and practice owner of Atrium Animal Hospital & Wellness Center. She loves seeing the big picture, the overarching vision. Kim is always thrilled at the interconnectedness of all aspects of life from the microcosm to the macrocosm.
"We are beings of nature on every level. When we are in balance with Mother Nature internally and externally, individually, communally, globally everything hums along. Physical, mental, environmental, spiritual health is all in sync. Unfortunately way too many humans for far too long now are acting as if we are above or separate from nature and that only leads to di-ease and to poor to disastrous function of all. Thus holistic veterinary medicine.........when the animal guardian lives healthy their animal family does too. Healthy food, organic and in sync with the seasons of nature .... the foundation of good health. Daily exercise in the outdoors..... healthy body and mind and spirit. Omitting use of lawn chemicals, home sprays, pesticides, artificial fragrances, toxic cleaning substances etc. healthy bodies continue. Omission of excessive vaccination and oral and topical chemicals and or chronic pharmaceuticals healthy body and mind. Healthy balanced emotions and attitudes healthy behaviors and body. Respectful interactions with all beings and earth fantastic! We really are heaven on earth if only we would wake up and realize what a gem we have and how to respect, restore, preserve and protect our beautiful, amazing, and phenomenal part in the cosmic web of life!"
What really drove you to become involved in the veterinary field?
"The love of animals and nature. The desire to preserve and protect all of nature's beings. As early as I can remember and was able to read and understand the difference between a conservationist and a veterinarian, I decided that I should be a veterinarian because that may give me the most options for me to have the greatest positive impact for the benefit of animal's lives."
What kind of schooling or training did you have to undergo to get where you are?
"I was educated at Oklahoma State University. I fulfilled all of the pre-med/vet requirements in 3 yrs. and applied and was accepted to the Veterinary College in my fourth year of college. I received my Bachelor of Science as I completed my first year of veterinary school. I completed my 4yrs. of Veterinary College to graduate as a DVM in 1986. In all of my pre college years I did everything I knew to prepare to be accepted to veterinary college. I took every science class possible. I entered all science fairs and won national awards for my study of the incidence of Heartworm disease in the Tulsa area (my home town in Okla.) One of my papers was published in the Okla. Veterinary College publication which gave me in roads to the parasitology professors at the college at that time. I started working at my neighborhood veterinary office at the age of 15yrs. and was promoted to surgical tech at the age of 16. In undergrad I was the president of the Pre-Veterinary Club. I had a work study scholarship in which I worked in the Veterinary College's histology lab and physiology lab. I did everything I could related to Veterinary Medicine.
Post graduate I pursued acupuncture training thru the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and became certified in 1994. I pursued continuing certification in acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine in 2000at Chi Institute of Veterinary Medicine and that continues to this day. I find Traditional Chinese Medicine absolutely eloquent, it is the big picture, and an intricate and phenomenal manifestation of thousands of years of use of a system that has observed and recorded and utilized the intricacies and interwovmeness of the reflection of nature in our being (our being us as humans and all of our animal brethren from microorganism, to insect, to bird, to mammal).
I attend as often as I can annual Holistic Veterinary Conferences in addition to Conventional Medicine. I think integrating the best of all modalities is ideal for prevention and restoration of health. Conventional western medicine is ideal for crisis intervention ie. broken leg, removing a mass, acute disease and injury. Often side effects of conventional medicine is the cause of other diseases ie. side effects of over vaccination, or pharmaceutical side effects.Conventional medicines does not do as well in chronic issues, whereas holistic approaches are often better at preventing and modifying or rectifying chronic issues. So, melding all is our best approach."
What do you see as your biggest success story in this business?
"Atrium Animal Hospital & Wellness Center has been my biggest success is the short answer, but there are so so many successes wrapped up in that. I have a fabulous staff that I am proud of and so enjoy working with. We have a fabulous clients and their beloved and cherished animal families. It is such a joy to be a part of their animal's health care team. Atrium is such a place of hope and helping everyone is sincere in their desire to help and comfort the animals and their people. It is also such a wonderful foundation for empowering people to embrace the healing available to all of us when we understand how we are a part of the big scene of nature and how that works down from the Macrocosm to the microcosm. Elucidating that for staff and clients and applying that to our animal friends and family ie the foundation of clean nutritious foods, not pumping too many chemicals in and on our bodies and in our environment, keeping a healthy distance from the "fear based medicine" of "kill everything before it kills you" ie. all the "cides" (pesticides, herbicides, bactericides,.....) when in fact that is what is actually killing us all!"
What would you say is your biggest challenge?
"Biggest challenge is educating and elucidating for others the passion of the power of living in sync and respect of our natural systems, nature. So many have been so indoctrinated by our institutions and media and advertising. Actually most clients very open, often times it is the professionals that are more challenging to bring around.
In reference to environmental issues: educating and exciting others of the power of numbers of people to stand up and speak up TOGETHER to have influence. Convincing others that we can change things if we band together in a unified voice and action."

Hey there Chiquitas!
We hope you enjoyed your fourth of July week, and we hope you are enjoying the summer sun as well! This week we are looking into some of the most prime spots on the Cape and in Western MA to grab a drink and relax, while enjoying the beauty that this weather has to offer.
According to Time Magazine, a drink a day may just help you live longer- so enjoying an ice cold bev in the sun couldn't hurt either ;)
If you're one of our Chiks that galivants more so on the West side of Mass, here are some of our favorite places to check in to!
We can't forget about our East side ladies of Mass, we love a good day out on the beach-laying in the sun and sand followed by a nice cold cocktail at night. Wouldn't you agree?
Happy hour happens EVERY DAY from 3-5:30 pm with $1 Oysters... what's better than that? I'll tell ya, their wine list! Reds, whites, sparkling, they've got you covered so park yourself at the Port for a night you'll never forget. Located at 541 Route 28 in Harwich Port.
Saquatucket Harbor will take your breath away, it is a beautiful spot for you to enjoy a cool ocean breeze, while sipping on a Perfect Catch (at a perfect catch itself☺) a harborside frozen favorite!
Checked it out for yourself already?
Or planning on making a few new stops along the way? Let us know!
You might just see us there!
Chat with you next time, Chiks!

The Salty Crown Boutique carries a carefully curated collection of high quality affordable, on trend, women's fashion, accessories & home goods. Our boho inspired merchandise includes; comfy sweaters, dark wash denim, flowing tunics, cozy button downs, boot socks, cute shoes, bralettes scarves, hats sunglasses, big earrings, funky tees + more. Kelly Lungo is originally got into the boutique business because she LOVES to shop (who doesn't?), and what better lifestyle choice is there other than to go head first into something that you're passionate about. She has devoted her heart and soul into this boutique that is located on Cape Cod in Orleans, MA and says that she wants to inspire women and girls all around to stay true to their style and to themselves. Fashion should feel happy, confident and beautiful at all times. Self-expression should never come with a hefty price tag, so she enjoys making sure her customers feel satisfied with the way that they look without having to empty out their pockets. Currently, their only location is on beautiful Cape Cod, however this doesn't mean that she won't ever expand to the rest of MA, someday. The world is her oyster ;)
What is your big picture for yourself for your entrepreneurial endeavors?
"My big picture is to be financially stable for my family. To work hard, play hard. I use to be in the restaurant business for 18 years. That industry is tough hours for a mom of 3. Love that working for myself gives me more flexibility for my children! My family has really motivated me to want to become a better boss and business owner."
What do you believe people should be the most aware about when it comes to boutique shopping?
"I just think boutiques are so fun to check out and shop in. Boutiques are a reflection of the owner in a sense. Their style/taste/vibe. Shopping small is important, your supporting a family a dream, it's not the same feel as the big box stores!"
What do you see as your biggest challenge?
"I live in a seasonal town. Winters are tough. However I am learning as I go through my experiences, you can always learn from the mistakes that you make."
What do you see as your biggest success?
"I am still so new. I don't really like to think about honing success yet."
What sets you apart from other boutiques around the area?
"There are not many boutiques in my area. I wanted to bring a fun vibe for all ages to be able to shop at, a lot of the shops next to me are aimed more towards the older ladies."
On your site carry different brands in specific, can you tell us a little more about them?
"Just brands I love! No particular meaning behind them."
Where did your brand name stem from?
"Haha! It has no meaning. Just popped into my head as I was piecing fun names together. Salty because we are from the Cape and Crown because what girl doesn't love a Crown?!"
What is one piece of advice that you would give individuals who want to get started as an entrepreneur in the future?
"That when the time is right you will know. It's scary and hard as hell but give it your all. Be dedicated! Don't let other people's negativity bring u down. Not everyone is supportive, let those people go gracefully and surround yourself with people who help you shine!"
Stay tuned for what we have in store for you next week on Chikchat, as we continue our summer fun into the week of July 4th!

You've been anticipating this for months...and the day has finally come! The Lady Entrepreneur bus tour will commence on Sunday, June 24th. It sounds like a day in paradise, right? Supporting each other at locally owned businesses around Western MA with a bunch of driven, bad ass babes by your side.
First things first, we will be heading over to Black Birch Vineyards for a wine tasting, because let's face it no one wants to start a day out with your girls without a little bit of an early bird happy hour ;) You'll be able to enjoy the gorgeous views and experience a truly notable wine tasting. They have over 19,000 vines stretching across 12 acres of rich Connecticut River Valley soil, which gives them access to well over 10 varietals of grapes. Since from the start, Black Birch has been planting their own grapes this means that they are 100% aware of everything that is going into the creating and processing of their wines. They won't miss a single step!
Our next stop for our Lady Entrepreneur tour is Thornes Marketplace. Here you can shop, eat, relax, just about anything you could possibly imagine. Enjoy some down time and get a seated 15 minute massage from The Backstop Seated Chair Massage, or gallivant around the shopping grounds and pick out some handcrafted jewelry from The Blue Marble.
It looks like we have a fun little pattern going on, drinking, non drinking activities....you guessed it: at stop number three we have Brew Practitioners Brewery for flights of unforgettable fun. This brewery is like no other, "Although she be little, she is fierce" is a perfect quote that we can match them up with because although they are a smaller sized brewery they make up for it with their bangin' personalities! They bring fun to flights, and are constantly bringing local and artistic beers to their brewing specialties.
To wind the day down, we will end at La Fiorentina Pastry Shop where their motto is "Life is short, eat dessert first!" to taste some of their amazing sweet treats. Choose from tons of different pastries such as a cannoli, eclair, cream puff, sfogliatelle, or an assorted bunch of everything that your heart desires!
Although we wish all of our Chiks could attend, this trip's for our ladies that are 21+, we'd love to see you there!
Tickets can be found here! If you haven't already purchased your ticket, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
This day is really too good to be true...but it's happening, it's huge and it's here, you'll even get to leave with a goodie bag, full of surprises from all of our amazing sponsors. (as if you already weren't hooked enough☺)
See ya Sunday, Chiks!
