I became a stay at home mom and I loved every moment of it, when my son turned 4..5yrs old I slowly started going back out in the world with my new business Hustle & Heart, and I knew that this was my path. I was my own boss, I could still be the best mom for my son, always home for him, but I could also get back out there with the public and bring those laughs and relationships back. You’re wearing every hat, making decisions on the fly, and often operating in survival mode. But here’s the truth many don’t want to hear: hustle alone is not a strategy. And without a clear strategy, even the most passionate business can stall, or fail.

At Chikmedia, we see this every day. Talented entrepreneurs with incredible products or services struggle not because they lack effort, but because they lack a plan. Social media platforms, algorithms, email marketing, PR opportunities, SEO, paid ads, we get it, it’s a lot. Without a strategy, small businesses often chase everything, spreading time and money too thin. Strategy provides clarity. It helps you identify where to show up, how to communicate, and who you’re actually trying to reach.

When you have a strategy, decisions become easier. You stop asking, “Should I try this?” and start asking, “Does this support my goals?” That shift alone saves time, reduces burnout, and increases impact.

Strategy Protects Your Brand

Your brand is more than a logo or color palette; it’s how people experience your business. Without strategy, messaging becomes inconsistent, visuals drift, and the brand story gets muddy. This can confuse your audience and erode trust, especially in moments of growth or crisis.

A strong strategy ensures that everything you put into the world, from Instagram captions to media interviews, aligns with your values, voice, and long-term vision. Consistency builds credibility, and credibility builds loyalty.

Strategy Turns Marketing into an Investment

Many small business owners see marketing as an expense because they don’t see immediate results. Often, that’s not a marketing problem, it’s a strategy problem. Throwing money at tactics without a clear plan leads to frustration and wasted resources.

With strategy, marketing becomes intentional. You know your goals, your metrics, and your audience. You’re not guessing, you’re building. Over time, this approach delivers measurable returns and sustainable growth.

Strategy Helps You Grow - On Purpose

Growth without strategy can be just as dangerous as no growth at all. That’s an admirable quality, but often we find that we do what we say we’re going to do for OTHERS and forget about ourselves. Standing in that room, surrounded by so many dedicated women and allies, was both energizing and deeply humbling.

My keynote centered on a theme that has guided both my personal and professional journey: living authentically. It’s a phrase we hear often, but in practice, choosing authenticity can be uncomfortable, vulnerable, and even risky. Yet it’s also where our leadership becomes the most powerful. I spoke about what it means to bring our full selves into our work, our stories, our values, our identities, our imperfect humanity, and how authenticity strengthens not only our own sense of purpose, but also the relationships we build and the impact we make.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned that authenticity isn’t something you “arrive at.” It’s a practice. It’s a series of daily choices; choosing honesty over ease, choosing alignment over approval, choosing presence over performance. When we let ourselves be seen, we give others permission to do the same.

At the WIDGB breakfast, I invited attendees to think about the moments when they’ve dimmed their own light in order to fit in, and what might be possible if they allowed themselves to lead with more truth and less fear.
What stood out to me most that morning was the palpable sense of community in the room. Women supporting women. Leaders uplifting leaders. Strangers who instantly felt like collaborators. This is the kind of community where authenticity can thrive; one that celebrates difference, encourages vulnerability, and makes space for growth.

I’m deeply grateful to WID Greater Boston for inviting me, and to everyone who joined me in exploring the theme of living authentically. My hope is that each person walked away with something, an insight, a reframe, a spark, that will support them in showing up more fully in their own lives and leadership.

Authenticity is not about perfection. It’s about alignment. It’s about the everyday courage to live and lead from who we truly are. And if November 7th taught me anything, it’s that we’re all walking this journey together.

Meghan shares why...

https://www.chikmedia.us/blog/meghan-shares-why

https://www.chikmedia.us/blog/meghan-shares-why#comments

Uncategorized

	#element-1632b2f4-1f52-4374-8fd4-6d5a566d6d58 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}	function setupElement250756349755084039() {	var requireFunc = window.platformElementRequire || window.require;	// Relies on a global require, specific to platform elements	requireFunc([ 'w-global', 'underscore', 'jquery', 'backbone', 'util/platform/elements/PlatformElement', 'util/platform/elements/PlatformElementSettings'	], function( _W, _, $, Backbone, PlatformElement, PlatformElementSe [...]

Chikmedia Closes Every Year for The Holidays

Hi Chik friends,

Meghan here (a.k.a. President & Chief Bad Ass of Chikmedia). This may seem like it’s coming early but every year I get lots of questions about why we do an annual Holiday Shutdown. Predicting this year will not be different, I thought I’d take this early opportunity to share why I have chosen to do this for over the past ten years since beginning Chikmedia.

Why we pause

Every year around Christmas we shut down for approximately 10 days (the days between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day). This is our intentional pause. It is a full team unplug, a chance to reset, recharge, and hit the next year ready to rock.

Here’s the deal: in the always-on, digital world of content, marketing and creative work, it is all too easy to stay plugged in, keeping up with client demands, algorithms, pings, social edits, brand launches and more. Rooted in wellness, our Shutdown is designed to push back against that pace.

We want each Chik to spend quality time with friends and family, reflect, unplug, maybe binge-read or hike or cook, and let their minds wander away from the day-to-day hustle. This isn’t just vacation, it’s strategic. I believe when you give creatives space to breathe they come back more alive, more inspired and more ready to innovate.

A real need for rest

Creative teams and marketing professionals are under real strain, but don’t take my word for it, here’s what the data says:

70% of professionals across media, marketing and creative sectors reported experiencing burnout in the past 12 months according to a 2024 study.

76% of creative leaders say they and their teams felt burned out by workload over the past year.

This info tells us something important: we’re in a field driven by ideas, fast-moving platforms, evolving client expectations; and if we don’t build in the rest, creativity falters, morale dips and innovation suffers. So our shutdown is preventative. We don’t want to wait until someone hits the wall. We’d rather skip the crash and revive the engine before we need it.

Why clients should care

You might ask: “Does a shutdown mean our projects stall?” Not at all. In fact, it means the opposite. Creating this space allows us to serve you at our best – not just delivering but over-exceeding. We plan far ahead, schedule accordingly, and let every client know our rhythm. And we come back with sharper vision, deeper clarity and the kind of creativity that only full replenishment allows.

We believe creativity thrives when each Chik is properly fueled. I’ve always loved that feeling of coming across something that’s just perfect for someone, as if it were made special for them. I wanted to create products that give people that same feeling when they come across my art: the joy of discovering something that instantly feels meaningful to give! So I started my company with a mission to make thoughtful gifting possible for everyone, especially those who don’t believe they have the magic “touch” when it comes to curating a gift.

How did you get started with your business?
I started experimenting with epoxy resin (the base material in all of my products) in 2023 with the goal of making birthday gifts for two of my best friends from college - they both have December birthdays and one of them was hosting a Christmas party at her new home in Massachusetts. During the summer, I discovered what epoxy resin can really do and I owe that to one of my cousin's childhood friends for introducing me to epoxy resin! My cousin’s friend and his girlfriend gifted both my aunt and cousin beautiful epoxy resin charcuterie boards when they were visiting for a BBQ and I fell in love with their masterpieces. I got the idea from them to make an epoxy resin charcuterie board just like theirs for my two friends for their birthdays. After spending hours watching Youtube videos and reading different “how-to” articles on Google, I couldn’t get it to look the same and I couldn’t even get the resin to harden - it was a complete fail. Shortly after, I was laid off from my full time job at the time and became determined to master the art medium of epoxy resin. I knew I needed to try and make something different then the original epoxy resin charcuterie boards that I saw at my cousins house, which is when I decided to add the epoxy resin to wooden charcuterie boards and create a totally different product. I practiced nonstop, sometimes even until 1am - I poured epoxy resin day in and day out and eventually mastered the craft.

What do you feel is most important for others to know about your business?
I want people to know how much dedication has gone into making this business what it is today. I still have a long way to go to build my business bigger, but every step I take is to create gifts that bring happiness to folks' lives.

How would you describe your leadership style?
I currently am a one-person show and don’t have any employees at the moment. Epoxy resin can be incredibly difficult to work with but at the end of the day, each piece I create needs to be as close to perfect as I can get it to be. If I had a team, I would need each of my employees to have this same mindset, but I’d encourage talking and laughter throughout the workday. I would want my employees to look forward to coming into a space where they are appreciated and feel important.

When you were growing up, what is your ultimate dream job? What do you do? What is your mission?
I am the Founder & CEO of End-to-End Innovation Consulting, where I help startups and innovative B2B companies transform complex ideas into real, market-ready solutions.

I began my career as a Systems Engineer and Product Lead at medium and large technology enterprises, developing innovative solutions for new markets from beginning to end. In the B2B world, it’s essential to ensure that any technology development addresses an emerging market or unmet customer need. My core focus is systems thinking—approaching every solution holistically and identifying the key stakeholders who must be aligned throughout development. Technology doesn’t operate in isolation; it requires business, marketing, sales, regulation, safety, and more all moving in the same direction.

With 15 years of experience, my mission is to work side-by-side with startups and innovative B2B companies to turn bold visions into reality—as a hands-on partner and a part of their team. I started my company in Nov 2022.

How did you get started with your business?
In 2021, I was really unhappy at my corporate job. I had a good role with high-visibility projects, but there were so many changes—I had five bosses in one year—and I was mentally drained.
I decided to leave that job and get married. After that, I spent time researching whether I could even become a consultant. I eventually decided it wasn’t for me because I had no consulting connections or clients.

Fast forward a year—I had applied to over 60–70 jobs, made it to the final round at four different companies, but never received an offer. I started to think the problem was me.

One random day in the summer, I emailed my professor from MIT, who also runs a side consulting company. He had previously offered me a full-time job, but I wasn’t interested. This time, I reached out to see if he had any part-time work—and he did.

After working on that part-time project for 3–4 months, I thought, “Wow, I can actually do this on my own.” So once it ended, I started looking for a small project online in the fall of 2022. I came across a platform called Catalant and landed one client. That project grew from two months to eight months, then 1.5 years, and eventually two years. In the meantime, I picked up other small clients through that first one.

The rest is history—and I’ve been continuing the business ever since.

What do you feel is most important for others to know about your business?
The most important thing I want people to know about my business is that I’m a consultant who truly enjoys working with the team—not just telling them what to do.

My business offers three types of services: project-based, hourly advising, and seminars.

Depending on the client’s needs, I offer one of these services. One of my key strengths is bringing structure to chaos. When working on new solution development—especially in new markets or addressing unmet customer needs—there’s a lot of uncertainty: uncertainty in the market, uncertainty around competitors, and often uncertainty about what we’re building. The structure I provide helps the team stay on task, moving step-by-step: first focusing on the problem, then the solution, and approaching that solution at a holistic level so it can scale effectively.

That said, the structure isn’t rigid—we can still pivot and adapt quickly when needed.

How would you describe your leadership style?
I would describe my leadership style as collaborative, strategic, and clear. I always explain the “why.” I’m a big believer that multiple minds are better than one, so I value input from all stakeholders—while still driving toward a clear, concise strategy to move forward.

My clients has described my leadership experience in their testimonials as: "Her inclusive leadership style encourages everyone to participate and engage." "Creates a respectful and collaborative environment."

When you were growing up, what is your ultimate dream job? If it's this, how does it feel to have met your dream?! If it was something different, how did your dream change over time?
Funny thing about when I was growing up—I never had a dream destination. I always knew I loved math and art, and my entire college and career journey has been a series of paths that led me to where I am today. Fifteen years ago, if you had told me I’d own my own consulting business built around my strengths, I would’ve called you crazy.

Even choosing my major was a process of trying different fields before landing on Mechanical Engineering. My career began in mechanical design and evolved into systems engineering, where I fell in love with the holistic view—being a jack-of-all-trades rather than the king of one.

So, I can’t really answer your question with a specific destination. But I can say this is the most “me” path I’ve taken in my career. I get to focus on what truly matters to me: having control of my time, choosing the projects I want to work on, and simply being happy.

Every business owner faces challenges. How are you empowered to overcome yours?
I’d say the way I overcome challenges is simple: know your strengths, know your weaknesses, and hire people who can support you where you need it most.

One thing I’ve learned in business—especially since this is all so new to me and there’s no clear blueprint—is that I often have to lean on creativity and surround myself with people I can bounce ideas off of and learn from.

For example, in Q1 of this year, I entered the next phase of my company. I was focused on finding new clients, which meant shifting my attention to marketing and sales—an area that isn’t my strength.

In the first three months, I experimented with a few things but realized two key issues: I wasn’t speaking to the right audience, and my messaging wasn’t landing—or maybe both.

So, I started looking for someone who could help with marketing, particularly with messaging and strategy. I eventually found someone who does exactly what I needed. She’s helped me grow in an area that was once a weakness—and that support has made all the difference.

Tell us (in one word) how you would describe your boss-chik business!
Innovative

Anything else we should know about you, your business, or just a fun fact?!
I’m a first-generation immigrant from Nepal (though I’ve now lived in the U.S. longer than I did in Nepal). Most of my family is here, and we’re very close. To show future guests what makes Glenmoor such a magical, memory-making destination and spoiler alert: it wasn’t hard to do.

Our team stayed on-site in one of their waterfront cottages, and in the motel, and made the most of every golden hour. We shot everything from quiet morning coffee moments on the balcony, to impromptu s’mores sessions by the fire, to cozy interiors that scream coastal charm.

Of course, being in such a picturesque spot, we carved out a little time to explore the area.
