12/2/2024 Featured Chik: Angela ParkMeet Angela Park, Executive Director of Springfield Performing Arts Venture, Inc. Read on to learn more about her and the work she is doing to protect the arts! Tell us a bit about your company! What do you do? What is your mission? Our mission is to provider quality low or no cost programming in the area of the arts, that is accessible to everyone. The first cuts in public schools are in the area of the arts, I have seen first hand how the arts can promote self confidence and self worth among young people. How did you get started with your business? I have a before and after school program that services mainly children from lower income families and we saw the need and love that the arts brought to these children but the one constant issue is that families could not afford the cost of programming. As a child I was lucky enough to have a robust music and art program in my school district starting in the forth grade and continued through high school. What do you feel is most important for others to know about your business? That all proceeds go directly back into programming and the community. This project comes from a place of love, all of our board members have been directly influenced one way or another from the arts and we felt it was our responsibility to promote growth of these programs. How would you describe your leadership style? I think to be a good leader you need to be able to allow everyone on your team to have input, through collaboration great ideas are born! In the end it is the responsibility of leadership to follow through to get the job done. I hate to micromanage, I feel we are all adults and we all know what are job is, so we just need to get it done! When you were growing up, what is your ultimate dream job? If it's this, how does it feel to have met your dream?! If it was something different, how did your dream change over time? When I was growing up I always wanted to be a BOSS! It's probably due to the fact I hate being told what to do. I just look at me doing the job that I chose and was meant to do. I have a huge responsibility not only to the families I serve but to the staff and their families that work for me. Every business owner faces challenges. How are you empowered to overcome yours? I tend to look at things as every problem has a solution and you just need to figure it out. I think a positive attitude goes a long way. Tell us (in one word) how you would describe your boss-chik business! Evolving Anything else we should know about you, your business, or just a fun fact?! I love to row! I row with Pioneer Valley Rowing Club in Springfield. Everyone at the club has been super supportive of this new adventure. Where To Find Her: Website | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn
