8/30/2022 Featured Chik:Kristina BorsetiWe're excited to introduce you to Kristina Borseti of And Then, Be Well. Kristina is a Health Coach and Pilates trainer like no other. Get to know her here! Tell us a bit about your company! What do you do? What is your mission? I am tenured Pilates trainer dually certified in Health Coaching, and CEO of And Then, Be Well. And Then Be Well (aka ATBW) is a health and wellness organization helping impact-driven women thrive in mid-life. Our mission is to eliminate the fear of the unknown with science-backed tools and faith-based principles. We serve through individualized and group coaching, Pilates sessions and classes, and industry related resources such as our blog, podcast (coming soon!), and a developing network of compassionate, preventative healthcare professionals. How did you get started with your business? What made you decide to join this industry? I have a deep sense of responsibility to help others. It is an innate quality, of which I knew Sales & Marketing were not the vehicles. While working at a luxury gym in a regional corporate wellness position and training pretty religiously, I threw my back lifting a 60 lb weight and could not sit, and barely able to stand, for 3 months. I did not have a doctor at the time, and found one on Google near our home to quickly be evaluated. His solution was pain meds of which after one day of feeling groggy and having nightmares, threw in our trash and looked for alternative methods online. Pilates kept popping up as a methodology used in back pain relief, and wa-lah! Several weeks of strengthening my deep core stabilizers and I was back in action, and ready to tell the world about this "miracle drug". I immediately became certified. That was 10 years ago and now I pay it forward by helping others with various pains and maladies, pre/post-natal and post-surgery among other specific competencies. Fast forward to 2017 after giving birth to my daughter, I went in to the hospital for a routine cyst removal only to become gravely ill, circling in and out of the medical system for months, with years of recovery. The blatant lack of disconnect from hospital bed to managing your health at home once discharged blew my mind. I was left to discover how to heal my abdomen after surgery, my gut lining after infection and C.Diff, to manage scar tissue after several surgeries; I had one surgeon tell me it was ok to take "Tylenol every day to manage the pain" and that I would most likely always live with pain. While I am happy to say that is not the case, I believe it was my God-given luck I was already informed on many healing methodologies and had the support and time to heal. This is when ATBW was birthed. It has since transformed from solely helping women tackling unexpected health issues to helping women in mid-life (pre- and peri-menopause) manage and reduce their symptoms so they can get back to living their life of impact. What does it mean to you to be a small business owner on the North Shore? It's incredible and supportive. We all want to succeed and there is definitely a collaborate over competition vibe. I am happy to be a part of this community, especially since I am not originally from MA, it feels good to have a little home in this group here. What is your favorite part of being a business owner? Working for myself, serving those I want to serve, not working for and on someone else's agenda or for those corporate sales markers! Success looks different these days. When you were growing up, what is your ultimate dream job? If it's this, how does it feel to have met your dream?! If it was something different, how did your dream change over time? Ironically I wanted to be a classroom teacher, be on the radio and/or creating something of my own. To which I suppose I have in that I educate, I am starting my podcast, and I soft launched a summer business of making jewelry with my toddler. I also really love to organize and tidy up, and would do that for free! Maybe that is my next serving calling?! Every business owner faces challenges. How are you empowered to overcome yours? One I pray on it which allows me that time to simply step away, clear my head and figure out the next step. Second, dependent on the circumstance I dig into my resourcefulness which only comes with the clarity of stepping away from said circumstance. Lastly, I lean into my own community that would include my business coach or fellow colleague, a therapist even! On a side note, I don't think that if working your business suddenly becomes challenging that means you should quit. That decision needs to come with some thoughtful introspection. Discern the voice of others and lean into what needs to happen to get you up the hill. Anything you lock into over a period of time will ebb and flow. Tell us (in one word) how you would describe your bosschik business! Brave Anything else we should know about you, your business, or just a fun fact?! ATBW will be offering a Cycle Syncing coaching program in the coming months and our podcast geared for our mid-life ladies, is set to launch in late September! As for me beyond business I am a wife and mother and lover of the slower more intentional way of living; I hope to one day live on some expansive portion of land with a vast garden and maybe some chickens. :) Where you can find her: Website | Instagram | Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn
