4/12/2023 Featured Chik: Chelsea BeaudryThis week, we're thrilled to introduce you to Chelsea Beaudry, Owner of Sweet Babu's! Sweet Babu's is a small-batch granola bakery in western MA with distribution sites all over New England. Get to know her here! Tell us a bit about your company! What do you do? What is your mission? Sweet Babu's is a small-batch bakery. We bake gluten-free granolas using natural and wholesome ingredients sourced organically and locally. Our mission is to bake good food for you, taking care of ourselves, our communities, and our planet. How did you get started with your business? I'm a self-taught baker who discovered a love for baking wholesome recipes when I started baking from scratch for my family. I honed my granola recipes and skills through trial and error. With time, my passion became an opportunity to connect with others and spread joy through my baked goods. My granola became highly sought after in my community, and Sweet Babus grew from there. What is most important for others to know about your business? I feel it's essential that people know the love and care that goes into creating our recipes and selecting the ingredients that go into them. We seek to build relationships with local farmers and small farms across the United States; this supports other small businesses and elevates the taste and quality of our granola to a-whole-nother-level! How would you describe your leadership style? Family style. I want people who work for me and look to me to feel like they are wrapped in a hug. Sometimes life is not easy, but when you come to work at my bakery, I want it to be a safe haven where you can sing, bake, and be happy. Family style. I'm a mom of 2 young kids so that flows into my leadership and the care for my employees. When you were growing up, what is your ultimate dream job? If it's this, how does it feel to have met your dream?! If it was something different, how did your dream change over time? I never had a "dream job." I played teacher, secretary, and veterinarian, and all those were fun, but I always wanted to be a mom. I come from a BIG family, and I was always the caretaker of my younger cousins. I started babysitting as a mother's helper when I was 10. I have always been a nurturer. So, in a way, I am doing what I ultimately dreamed about; I'm a mom and a baker who nurtures not only my family but everyone who takes a bite of the baked goods I create. Every business owner faces challenges. How are you empowered to overcome yours? I have a long history of challenges I've overcome and some that I still face today that are not business related. I have worked on myself for years and continue to do so daily. You realize at some point that life will never be smooth sailing. It's a roller coaster; once you accept that, the challenges come and go more freely. It's all easier said than done, and there have been many tears at the end of many days over the last year. But then I woke up to a message from someone who ordered from Texas and wrote me an email saying they were up here and tried my granola and would never be able to eat another brand again. Those moments give me a boost to get me over the next hurdle. Tell us (in one word) how you would describe your boss-chik business! REAL Anything else we should know about you, your business, or just a fun fact?! I love nature in all forms, especially being in the woods. I have a 7-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son and have been with my husband for 17 years. We have a mini Aussie named Zoe who loves to hike with us! When I started my business, I had no idea it would grow into this; I am in awe every. Single. Day. Where you can find her: Website | Instagram | Facebook
