​The Cannabis Industry: How Do You Market an Industry Who Can’t Use Marketing?

Last month I had the privilege of visiting Canna Provisions in Holyoke, MA. The store is absolutely beautiful: an experience, if you will. This is no “pot-shop,” it’s a fully immersive, stunning store where you can explore the often mysterious world of cannabis, all with the help of their friendly staff.

It’s clear Canna Provisions is the leading expert in their field, and that they’ve invested time and money into crafting an intentional shopping experience meant to make people feel at home. But how do you get people to a store when you can’t tell them about it?

That is one of the biggest challenges the Cannabis Industry faces; the archaic restrictions and policies set in place to regulate their external messaging. Even using the word “cannabis” on Instagram will get your account shutdown, even though it’s a legal recreational activity in 19 states.

We, as a marketing agency, continue to explore and keep an eye out for opportunities for this evolving industry, knowing that print and influencer marketing appear to be current, “approved” ways to promote.
