**Please note, this visit took place prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Worcester Public Market is currently closed until the week of April 6th. We highly recommend giving them a visit after things have stabilized with the virus. As someone who has lived in New England her entire life, I am always looking for new day trip locations to explore. I had the pleasure of visiting the Worcester Public Market this past weekend and for the day-tripper, it’s a must see. For those who aren’t familiar, here’s a blurb on the WPM from their website: The vision to establish the Worcester Public Market first evolved in 2014 when Canal District entrepreneur and WPM founder, Allen Fletcher, purchased a plot of land and began assessing community need for the new market. The once vacant dirt lot had largely served as a parking lot for Crompton Place, a former manufacturing building once known as the Crompton Loom Works. The site now boasts a mix of service-based businesses, offices and retail shops that sell locally-made goods. There’s a bay-windowed bakery and coffee shop, gift and home décor shops, a book shop and an event space. Upon arrival, I noticed that the whole area surrounding the space was alive and filled with sites to be seen. When you plan a visit to the WPM, make sure you leave time for the surrounding home good stores, fashion shops and for BirchTree Bread Company – home of some of the best bread I’ve ever tasted and one of the largest iced teas I’ve ever been given! I digress… Filled with a variety of food vendors, a small market for fresh produce and mini cider donuts, and a half dozen shops filled with homemade soaps, cupcakes and cooking accessories, the market put a smile on my face and a beer in my hand. Anchored at the end of the market, Wachusetts Brewery Co. offers a variety of beers for all palettes. So you can grab a brew stick around the Brew Yard’s beautiful open space, or head into the food area and snag a snack. The Worcester Public Market makes the perfect weekend day trip, or even a convenient spot to grab items you might need during the week. Be advised, they don’t open till 11am, so plan accordingly. We will certainly be back!
